Komatsu Strengthens Education in Greenland

XL-BYG Arctic Import and Scantruck deliver bulldozer, loader, dumper, and backhoe loader to the Mining School in Sisimiut. Future contractors and mine workers in Greenland are to learn to deal with mountains and mountain massif by aid of machines delivered by XL-BYG Arctic Import and Scantruck. |
The two companies have just sent three Komatsu-machines to the Building and Works School in Sisimiut and before long yet another one will be sent along with a Valtra-tractor to the town in Greenland.
In future the five machines are to form the nucleus of the mining and mountain blaster and explosives department of the school - known as the Mining School in everyday speech. ”The department is the only one of its kind in Greenland and is a result of the fact that in the last few years a substantial mining industry has emerged in the world’s northernmost country”, says Mr Peter Bertelsen, sales manager at XL-BYG Arctic Import.
Part of the education to the mining industry is about learning to drive the contractor’s machines. Earlier on this has taken place in Denmark, where the participants in the course learn to drive in topsoil and soil. This is not of much help when you work in granite and mountain.
A Full Line Range
”Besides, it is very expensive to send the pupils of the school to Denmark for several weeks at a time. Consequently, the Building and Works School has decided to build its own assembly of machinery so that they themselves can run all the courses in the field”, the sales manager says.
The choice ended with Komatsu in order to secure the school admittance to a machinery programme which covers all requirements. This makes it easier to instruct the pupils and teachers of the school in their daily use and maintenance and to get service and maintenance done.
”Komatsu is the world’s second largest manufacturer of contractor’s machinery and has a full line range, which means that we can deliver all kinds of machines irrespective of needs. Furthermore, Komatsu is the only manufacturer with the advanced surveillance system, Komtrax, where you can sit in the office and follow the machine on position and check service needs and productivity”, says Mr Henrik Kirketerp-Møller, sales manager at Scantruck.
Good Cooperation
Scantruck is in charge of import and sales of Komatsu in Denmark and the Faroe Islands and cooperates with XL-BYG Arctic Import to cover the market in Greenland.
”XL-BYG Arctic Import has many years’ experience and know-how about the conditions in Greenland and therefore we are pleased to continue the cooperation our company has had with the former representative of Komatsu in Denmark, the engineering company KFD A/S, which has now closed their business”, the sales manager at Scantruck says.
The Building and Works School in Sisimiut has earlier purchased the excavator PC 210LC-7 and loader WA80-5. This time it has purchased the dozer D51PX-22, the backhoe loader WB97S-5, the dumper HM250-2-and the loader WA380-6. The machines have been delivered by ship from Aalborg to Sisimiut
