Many people had turned up this Friday morning, when the doors were opened wide to the newly refurbished Ilulissat Centre Market.

The spirits were high and the atmosphere was reflected by the opening ceremony at which both customers and assistants were enthusiastic about the development the supermarket has undergone.

Proudly Ilulissat Centre Market could show the result of a long period of work now appearing as a modern and stylistically consistent supermarket.

- It has been important for us to create a supermarket which appears modern, and which offers the customers many choices among the new and exciting range of products. However, at the same time we have focused on giving the shop a regional character and therefore we contacted the local artist Paninnguaq Kristensen, who was happy to make a painting on one of the walls of the supermarket, says Mr Allan Frost, manager of Arctic Import.

The beautiful work of art, which the just 25-year-old artist Paninnguaq Kristensen has created among specialities, refrigerated counters, soft drinks etc., renders the regional sprinkling of the area. Thus on one of the walls in the supermarket the customers have the pleasure of seeing a picture of the church in Ilulissat and the magnificent view over the Icefjord.
