Kaffigooq – The Coffee to Be Enjoyed for the Sake of the Children ...
A new coffee is being introduced on the market in Greenland these days. Kaffigooq is the name of the coffee, which is not only being enjoyed by adults, but is also being for the good of children.
A cooperation between Arctic Import and the Association Greenlandic Children means that it is possible to contribute to centres for Greenlandic children and young people.
Kaffigooq is produced from selected coffees from Brazil, Central America, and East Africa, and will be introduced as the new quality coffee in Greenland, because both the coffee mixture and the roasting of the coffee beans have been specially adapted for the water in Greenland.
Donation to the Children
”We care” is an important element in Arctic Import’s set of values. Therefore the company has entered into an agreement with the Association Greenlandic Children to donate 1 Dkr. every time a bag of Kaffigooq is being sold. In this way we say thank you for good cooperation with the Greenlandic society and the population of Greenland.
Together the Association Greenlandic Children and Arctic Import have decided that the surplus from sales of Kaffigooq is to go to two selected centres for young people; Sikkersoq in Alluitsup Paa and Kutsatta in Ittoqqortoormiit. Both centres have been founded by the Association Greenlandic Children at the request of Nanortalik and Ittoqqortoormiit municipalities, respectively.
In connection with Arctic Import’s 25th anniversary last year the Association Greenlandic Children received a donation for Dkr. 44,000. This amount was primarily spent on improving the conditions for the children in Sikkersoq, and therefore it is a great pleasure to Arctic Import to learn that the centre in Scoresbysund will not only get the donation through Kaffigooq, but also has been chosen to receive the surplus from Erann DD´s wedding song to Kronprins Frederik and Ms Mary Donaldson.
So coffee drinkers in Greenland have an affect on how large the donation to the Association Greenlandic Children will be. The more people are drinking the new quality coffee in Greenland, Kaffigooq, the more kroner go into the cash box at the Association Greenlandic Children. Kaffigooq is sold by private grocers and kiosks in Greenland, where you can find the coffee and also brochures for the Association Greenlandic Children.
New Centres for Young People
The Association Greenlandic Children endeavour to give children and young people in Greenland a better life. Therefore centres in towns in south Greenland and on the east coast of Greenland have been established and run for a number of years. The centres are a free offer to the children in the town during day and evening hours, and their main function is to offer support and safety for those of the children, who have special needs.
Secretary-general for the Association Greenlandic Children, Ms Bente With, informs that the centres function as a breathing spell for the children. Here the children can take part in exciting activities together with the employees and other children; they can get a meal served and get their clothes washed. And they have the possibility for care from adults and a bed to sleep in, if they experience problems and insecurity at home.
The personnel at the centres are in general alert as regards children with needs for special support and care. Therefore they also act as a platform for courses and network, which are to help fathers and mothers who lack resources to cope with their role as parents. ”It is important for the Association Greenlandic Children to play an active part in recreating a safe family life for each child and its family. For that reason the work to improve conditions for children who lack care takes place in close cooperation with parents, social authorities, the prevention council in the municipality, the police, and the health authorities”, says Ms Bente With.
The Queen is Patron
The Association Greenlandic Children target their efforts to create safe structures for children and young people, who have difficulties at home. The children are in focus and the personnel at the centres concentrate their efforts on creating cosy frames for the children. Their hearts beat for the Greenlandic children! And there is no doubt that the well-being of Greenlandic children holds a very special place in the heart of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe; for she is the patron for the Association Greenlandic Children.
