Development

Arctic Import was established in Nuuk in 1978 on the basis of an increasing demand for import of goods to Greenland.

The requirement for Arctic Import’s competences meant that in 1984 we extended and established a purchasing office in Nørresundby, Denmark.

As a natural part of the development over time the company has established the independent sales departments:

• Hotel & Institution
• Retail
• Food Service
• Mining & Ship Supply
• Contractors' Equipment

In 2001 Arctic Import established a wholesale stock in Nuuk. From here we guarantee continuous deliveries of fast-moving consumer goods to shops in the capital of Greenland. 

A Company in Development

Every year the Danish business newspaper “Børsen” awards a Gazella to the fastest growing companies in Denmark. In 1999, 2000, and 2001 Arctic Import has received this award.

Furthermore, in 2008 we have obtained an AAA rating with the denomination “Excellent Credit-Worthiness” by Dun & Bradstreet.

A Part of Arctic Group

Since 2007 the sales company Arctic Import has been part of the Arctic Group of companies with head office in Nørresundby, Denmark.

This restructuring was carried out at a point in time when the company’s focus areas had become rather extensive.

Trade & Industry and Timber Trade were separated from Arctic Import and established in a company of their own – XL-BYG Arctic Import which in 2011 was sold.

 Retail, Hotel & Institution, Food Service, Mining and Ship Supply and Contractors' Equipment are retained in the present Arctic Import.

Blika- Subsidiary in the Faroes


In 1999 we established a permanent representation in the Faroes.

Subsequently, these activities have been taken over by our Faroese subsidiary Blika in which Arctic Import holds 48% of the shares.

Focus on turnkey solutions

In 2011, a restructuring meant selling of XL-BYG Arctic Import end thereby selling of Timber Trade and parts of Trade & Industry. At the same time, the restructuring meant increased focus and strengthening of the Supply business area where Arctic Import's competences within turnkey deliveries to the ship, mining and offshore industry are at their best. Furthermore, we continue our sole representation with Komatsu, Manitou, Atlas Copco and Excadrill contractors' machines and Trygg chains in the Greenlandic market. Establishing the new business area strengthens Arctic Import as supplier of turnkey solutions as the customer only needs one supplier contact and Arctic Import secures swift, easy and reliable trade.
